The establishment of the village started before 650 BC by the Eretrians, who had settled in the peninsula of Cassandra during that period and gave it the name “Neapoli”. This name remained until 540 AD when the area surrendered to complete destruction by the invasions of the Huns. In the 11th century, farmers and breeders gathered in this area and the village was named “Polyhroo” because of the many flowers that were there. A few centuries later, during the revolution of the Greeks against the Turkish rule in 1821, the area was burned and completely destroyed for the second time in its history. Some years later, some of the few survivors rebuilt the village, which over the years took the name “Polychrono” that is used up to this day.
Prepare to be “captured” in the small, picturesque paradise of Halkidiki, cosmopolitan Hanioti. Hanioti or Haniotis as yet called, got its name, according to tradition, from the first inhabitant of the village, who came from Chania Crete. The establishment of the village probably took place in the late 1st century. Throughout the Turkish occupation of Greece, it was one of the 12 villages that had been under the supervision of the Gkazanfer Agha. The village was moved to its present location in 1930 after a devastating earthquake.
The wonderful cool climate of Hanioti, the beautiful beaches with the gorgeous blue waters and the green nature that surrounds the area will take you to a world of color and intense sensations.
Hanioti is a modern village, full of small parks, picturesque squares, and tall, centuries-old trees. It is certainly one of the busiest parts of Halkidiki, attracting thousands of visitors every year, especially during the summer months. Lined with traditional taverns, restaurants, bars, cafés and all kinds of shops, offers modern amenities and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Hanioti is also known for its lively beach bars stretching on a 4.5km beach. They offer a variety of options, both for those looking for live music and frenetic rhythms and those looking for peace and quiet.
